DANCE THEATER PERFORMANCE

The solo gathers different choreographic fragments from the creator/performer, within an interdisciplinary context, relating art, culture and science. The piece questions a priori definitions of a "Latin body", deconstructing and exposing it as a constant transition/ÜBERGANG between mutant symbolic, genetic and geographic mappings. Reverting the concept of a "Germany above all" ("Deutschland ÜBER alles", fragment taken out of the German hymn after the Nazi period), ÜBERGANG shows the overlapping of intercultural experiences of a Latin woman in Berlin: in classical Indian dance classes; in Latin, Turkish, East European, techno, and goa (electronic Hindu) gatherings, commemorating the Brazilian soccer championship in a street carnival... Among uncountable subway lines, various cultural traditions and fragmented bodies of contemporary scene meet in this unpredictable Latin transfer/ÜBERGANG - a pos-nuclear shelter under the earth/skin? Would "latinidad" reside in this submerged creative abysm between foreign clichés about us and clichés of our own self-image in face of foreign models?

VIDEO DANCE PROJECT

This is an open project, moving itself from place to place at different dates. It includes the performance and recording of scenes from "ÜBERGANG" in public spaces, interacting with people, architecture, objects, sounds, etc. It allows for the dialogue between structure and change, creating new scenes out of the existing ones, according to this interaction with people and space. In Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, it has been developed at the Model Market (Mercado Modelo), a historical building that became a three-floors public market of traditional products. At the underground floor, especially relevant to this project due to the association to subways, several scenes were performed to the sound of Bahian traditional berimbau (Afro-Brazilian instrument used in Capoeira martial art and on sale at several shops at the Market). The musical instrument, played by Eunias dos Santos, was also present at the performance on the main floor, with dancers Ciane Fernandes and Emanoel Nogueira. The photos are from Marcos MC
(see in photo galery).
